Highlights
-
In the dynamic landscape of large telco enterprises facing disruptive system
challenges, Triple - E supports one of Indonesia’s leading operators in managing
the network operation of 17,000 BTS towers in Sumatera.
-
With the regular occurrence of external threats affecting telco equipment,
preventive maintenance is crucial in maintaining network stability and
resilience to overcome potential issues.
-
Our implemented strategies that aim to mitigate future challenges resulted in a
reduction of support requests and optimized system performance.
The Challenge
While routine maintenance is essential to ensure tower longevity and compliance,
telco companies contend with unpredictable elements such as severe weather
conditions and human threats, leading to issues like equipment damage,
electricity outages, vandalism, theft, and equipment hazards. The result of
services downtime can be very costly, especially for leading network operators
like our clients, whose web of services spans over a thousand transmission tower
sites. In cases like this, we need to prevent problems before they start and
deliver high-quality execution to ensure network resilience.
Our Solution
At Triple-E, we carry out corrective and preventive maintenance together with
customized solutions tailored to the client’s challenge. To pave the way for
uninterrupted network services, our execution involved:
- Alarm Prioritization
Managing alarms that cause service disruption is our top priority, yet the
complexity of repetitive and false alarms makes it challenging to identify the
impact and effect of each issue. To ensure our clients’ systems operate
optimally with minimized downtimes and costs, we used a proactive and systematic
problem-solving approach:
- Assist our client in classifying alarm types based on severity, thus
facilitating execution based on priority;
- Adopted Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify the underlying causes of alarm
incidents and immediate solutions to remedy.
-
Power Backup Optimization
In Indonesia, there’s a significant challenge involving electricity reliability
that often causes network outages. To optimize power support, our solution
involves:
- Close coordination with PLN on blackout schedules to prepare efficient
backup power support;
- Analyze historical patterns to gain strategic insights into power outage
behavior;
- Strategic placement of backup power based to maximize backup power utilization;
- Streamlined distribution of power backup units to ensure optimal support in
high-usage areas and save costs in low-usage areas.
- Managing Large-Scale Outages
Among the many types of equipment damage, fiber optic cuts that often stem from
intentional vandalism or damages during construction pose a significant threat
to network availability and a large-scale network outage. To minimize such
events, we:
- Finding workaround solutions to restore services as soon as possible;
- Collaborate with our client to deploy field supervisors to oversee public
construction;
- Close coordination with field supervisors of fiber optic providers in
safeguarding fiber optic networks to ensure uninterrupted and reliable network
service.
Our Impact
After a year of running our clients operations, Triple–E's strategies have
yielded tangible results, including:
- A 58% decrease in power-related issues over the year, with an average
monthly decrease of 5%, showcasing the efficiency of our backup power system
- A remarkable 68% decrease in requests for technical support related to
non-power issues, demonstrating the successful elimination of repetitive alarms
and enhanced system ability.
In summary, our preventive approach ensures enhanced network resilience, reduced
downtime, and heightened customer satisfaction in the face of complex
telecommunication challenges.
